Sure, It’s August, but Holiday Shoppers Are Already out There

Hustle, busy life. Young woman in a hurry, waiting, checking time on her wristwatch while holding paper bags, drink and mobile phone in shopping center, copyspace

The sun is shining and the days are long; summer is very much still in the air. But don’t be fooled…fall will be here before you know it, and from there on you’re just a few blinks away from the holidays, aka shopping season. In short, the time to prep is NOW.

As a brand, you know that a massive slice of your holiday season selling pie happens at retail. More specifically, however, sales are taking place through the ecommerce channel. What’s more, one in five US internet users start their holiday shopping during the summer.

Here’s a quick look at what took place in 2015:

  • Ecommerce had yet another tremendous season, with sales growing 13.4%.
  • Traditional retail sales overall fell flat, growing just 1.7%, the slowest rate since the depths of the Great Recession in 2008–2009.
  • Retail sales on smartphone platforms nearly doubled in 2015, increasing 95.8%

So what does this all mean? Because the growth of ecommerce reduced foot traffic in stores, it’s imperative for you to take the ecommerce channel seriously in order to stay competitive. Especially when prepping for the holy grail of shopping and when your buyers are already researching products online!

The place to be is right there with them – at their favorite retail channel, online.
