What’s the first thing you do in the morning:
I usually wake up to let the dogs out, then spend 15-20 minutes meditating. Next comes breakfast, a shower and then I’m out the door to catch a train.
Take us through a typical day in the life of Dan:
Morning routine takes me up to the train – where I typically do 1 of three things (1) Read a book (currently re-reading GOT), (2) Watch an Episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm on my Ipad, or (3) Listen to a Podcast (Barstool – Pardon My Take most often). A few times during the Summer I will get up early and get in a quick surf session before the train in Long Beach.
Middle of the day is work.
Post work occasionally consists of few happy hour beers. During the summer I try to rush home so I can take my bike or roller blades over to the boardwalk to hang around the taco trucks and enjoy the beach. On Wednesdays I have piano lessons (still a work in progress), and on Mondays I have a standing dinner date with my Mom. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday are usually a free for all but more often than not involve a few beers and time spent outdoors
Once I get home I usually try to prepare dinner or food for the week. I am experimenting with homemade hot sauce so lots of chopping and blending. Then I’ll settle in and either watch TV or read a book until around 11PM when I wind down. I try to avoid looking at my phone but I still regularly find myself drawn to it to catch up on daily news, current events and sports scores.
You’re most productive when…
I have an agenda or tasks outlined on sticky notes.
What’s a big project you are working on right now?
News America – I’m focused on keeping the client relationship in a good place while also making sure to transition the team into the new “programmatic trader” role that encompasses Ad Operations, Delivery and Sales Enablement.
How many browser tabs do you have open at any given time?
3-5 (depending on if sports are on).
Your desk: messy or neat?
I like to think of it as an organized mess.
Lunch: bring or buy?
What’s your favorite perk at the Q?
Music while you work: yes or no?
What’s on your shuffle?
80’s, 90’s and Today. Depending on the mood I’ll either throw in a little Cardi B or go the opposite end with my Jock Jams playlist.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
If money weren’t an object and you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
A luxury treehouse in the jungle with full access to a kitchen and bar.
You get around by: walking, driving, public transportation or a mix?
It’s a mix.
Tell us, mountain or beach?
When you’re not here, where are you?
I often like to travel on the weekends mainly to Connecticut or Upstate NY.
Looking ahead – what most excites you most about 2019 and your work?
More adaptation towards our core products for News America (RTM, Data Ingestion, POS data, segmentation/modeling). Hopefully 2019 will be the year we can kill off the archaic CTR line of thought once and for all.
…That was my politically correct answer. I’m really looking forward to the 5 total eclipses this year, Star Wars coming out in December, and slinging tacos to the masses. Ooooh and world peace!
