Tom McKeon, Director, Data Management Platform

You know our products, you know our tech… but do you know the people behind it all? Step into our Q’mmunity Corner and learn who’s who with our employee spotlight series. Today we’re featuring Tom McKeon, Director, Data Management Platform based in ownerIQ’s Boston office.

What’s the first thing you do in the morning:
Snooze my alarm. It usually takes a couple tries to get me out of bed.

Take us through a typical day in the life of Tom:
I usually decide whether I’m going to bike or take the train in depending on the weather. Once I get in, I check in on the Platform Health Dashboard as well as AppSupport to make sure everything is in a good place. If everything is looking okay, I move on to my Product and Team related tasks and projects. After that it’s usually the dinner> TV > bed cycle.

You’re most productive when…
I’m able to focus on the task at hand without interruptions. Typically I like some good music playing in my headphones.

What’s a big project you are working on right now?
We’re working on completing our direct data integration with AppNexus in addition to POS/CRM onboarding projects.

How many browser tabs do you have open at any given time?
15-20…

Your desk: messy or neat?
I like to think of it as an organized mess.

Lunch: bring or buy?
Buy.

What’s your favorite perk at the Q?
I probably don’t use it as much as I should, but unlimited time off provides for some great flexibility.

Music while you work: yes or no?
Yes.

What’s on your shuffle?
These days it’s been all over the place. Nils Frahm, Wu-tang, Nas (Illmatic), Herbie Hancock, The Beatles, Aphex Twin, and Ricardo Villalobos. I mostly listen to DJ mixes though.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Air Force Pilot

If money weren’t an object and you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I’ve never been, but Switzerland seems like it would be a great place to live.

You get around by: walking, driving, public transportation or a mix?
It’s a mix to be honest.

Tell us, mountain or beach?
Mountain.

When you’re not here, where are you?
At home or out to dinner. I also run a Wednesday night weekly music/DJ night in Cambridge.

If you have one then we’ve got to know… what’s your favorite Q Jay (Jay Habegger, CEO) moment?
Time will tell!

Looking ahead – what most excites you most about 2019 and your work?
I’m looking forward to continuing to learn as well as improve the Data Management Platform.
